Alexandria has a new romantic and elegant bar right in the heart of Old Town at the corner of Washington and King streets: the upstairs Palm Lounge at Magnolia’s on King. This stunning room with its cozy fireplace is perfect for a date, a quiet drink alone or a business meeting. In addition, the lounge is great for a party or holiday event with friends, family or work colleagues.

The outstanding craft cocktails and exquisite cuisine are two excellent reasons to become a regular at Magnolia’s. Some favorite cocktails include craft mixologist Zach Faden’s Magnolia’s Old Fashioned, which is Old Overholt rye, pineapple syrup, cherry and angostura bitters. Another is the Pear and Pina, made up of espolon reposado tequila, pear and ginger-infused Cointreau, lime and pineapple syrup.

Chef Brian Rowe’s fall menu simply must be experienced. There are many exceptional selections, but there are several offerings not to be missed, including the halibut, the steak and the duck, as well as the shrimp and grits and the pumpkin and squash risotto. The east coast halibut is blackened and pan-seared, served with mouthwatering Cajun risotto, pimento and cilantro beurre blanc with chive oil.

Beef lovers will not want to miss the wagyu New York strip steak, served with the chef’s special steak sauce, Yukon gold potato, chive puree and roasted rainbow carrot. Yet, for those who love duck, the pan-seared duck breast is a must-order item. This duck fat and butter poached breast is complemented by whipped potato gratin with a white truffle/bacon crème and wild mushroom bread pudding and caramelized shallots.

For a sweet finish, try pastry chef Hans Fogleman’s coconut rum cake with fresh grated coconut, dark rum, toasted coconut, cream cheese and rum glaze served with pistachio gelato. Or, experience his bananas foster bread pudding made with brioche bread, cinnamon, rum, bananas, and bourbon caramel, served with locally made vanilla ice cream. These are just two menu standouts, and the desserts can be enjoyed in the dining room or sitting in front of the Palm Lounge fireplace.

Make a reservation today at Magnolia’s on King for what will be a gorgeous meal and find out why the Palm Lounge is becoming one of the most loved bars in Alexandria.
