To the editor:
As someone who bikes between Old Town and Chinquapin several times a week, I like having the bike lanes on King Street. I hope that they can be extended further west on King Street and the road resurfaced for a smoother ride.

I would hope that the purpose of adding bike lanes, and making other bike-friendly changes in Alexandria, would be to encourage more people to ride bikes, not just to accommodate those of us who already use our bikes for transportation.

A visit to Portland, Ore. will show you what can be done when bike lanes are emphasized, and car traffic lanes are designed to accommodate those lanes. It makes for a much more pleasant experience for everyone.
