Your View: Funds to retain Port City Brewing Company is money well spent

To the editor:
In response to Jimm Roberts’ letter to the editor (“Your View: Port City Brewing Company shouldn’t rely on public funds,” September 8), I respectfully disagree.

Port City Brewing Company has been a tremendous example of a local, homegrown business that is not only a great source of liquid refreshment for our community, but for myself and many other residents it’s also a wonderful source of pride.

When friends and family visit from out of state, they always want to visit Port City because they’ve not only heard great things about their award-winning beers, but they have also heard about the wonderful guest experience they will receive from the staff.

As the brewery has evolved, they’re bursting at the seams for space. This much is apparent to anyone who’s visited in the last year. Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) and city officials aren’t selecting winners and losers. It’s quite clear that Bill Butcher and his team have developed a winner, and now they’ll get to stay in Alexandria and continue to be a part of our community.

I’ve been a loyal Port City Brewing Company customer since the week they opened, and I’m so proud that they’ll be able to grow and flourish in the city that birthed them: Alexandria.
