Fishermen rescued five people from the Potomac River near the Woodrow Wilson Bridge last night after their boat possibly struck a buoy marker.
At approximately 2 a.m. October 14, two fishermen near Old Town heard a loud bang before finding a motorboat with five people on it taking on water, according to a spokesman for the U.S. Coast Guard. The fishermen rescued the five and dropped them off at a yacht club nearby.
The Coast Guard called D.C. Harbor Patrol, which found the 25-foot boat unoccupied but significantly damaged. It was impounded for further investigation.
An initial investigation indicated the boat may have struck a buoy marker. Police said there were no injuries.
