Portions of Duke Street are closed this morning due to truck pulling a power pole out of the ground.

Eyewitnesses reported that the pole was listing and wires were sagging in the street. When the truck drove through, it caught on the wires and pulled the pole out the ground, police said.

The incident occurred on the 400 block of Duke Street.

Police said the pole hit and damaged the car belonging to a woman parked at St. Paul’s Nursery and Day School. Most of the other vehicles parked on the street have left the area.

The wires are still live and dangerous, police said. Dominion power is now on the scene.
