Alexandria City Public Schools was one of 51 recipients of a state grant aimed at allowing school divisions, community groups and faith-based organizations to provide additional extracurricular enrichment opportunities, the Virginia Department of Education announced on Tuesday.
Four Alexandria schools will receive part of the VDE’s 21st Century Learning Center Grant: Samuel W. Tucker Elementary, Patrick Henry K-8 School, Cora Kelly School for Math, Science and Technology and Jefferson-Houston PreK-8 School.
Grants range from $50,000 to $200,000 and are designed to support programs and opportunities outside of regular school hours, especially those that reach students in high-poverty and low-performing schools, according to the VDE website.
