There is a new exhibit at the Torpedo Factory in honor of the women’s suffrage centennial.
The 19th amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified on Aug. 18, 1920 to guarantee women the right to vote. A local nonprofit, Alexandria Celebrates Women, has been commemorating the centennial throughout 2020.
As part of the celebration, ACW partnered with the Torpedo Factory Artists’ Association to present “WE VOTE!” an exhibit featuring an array of women’s suffrage-inspired art, voting rights history, voter registration information and a life-size suffragist backdrop, according to a news release.
The art and history exhibit will run at the Marian Van Landingham Gallery at the Torpedo Factory Art Center through Sept. 27. The exhibit is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
