Vice Mayor Elizabeth Bennett-Parker announced on Tuesday that she would be running as a candidate to represent the 45th District in the Virginia House of Delegates.

Del. Mark Levine currently represents the district but is running for Lieutenant Governor, according to a news release. As part of her bid for the House of Delegates, Bennett-Parker will not run for reelection during the 2021 City Council race.

Bennett-Parker, a co-leader of nonprofit Together We Bake, was elected to City Council in November 2018, becoming the youngest woman elected to council in the city’s history. During her time on council, Bennett-Parker also served as the chair of the Virginia Railway Express and as a member of the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission and Northern Virginia Regional Commission.
