The Alexandria Health Department announced on Saturday that it will resume the use of the COVID-19 Johnson & Johnson vaccine in the coming weeks.
The decision comes after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently lifted a recommended pause on the vaccine due to six cases of a rare blood clot disorder. The Virginia Department of Health has cleared providers across the Commonwealth to resume vaccine use immediately, according to a news release.
Anyone who made an appointment to receive the Johnson & Johnson vaccine previously but has not re–scheduled will be able to do so using their last appointment token, according to the release. Vaccine options will be clearly labeled when scheduling appointments through the health department.
AHD recommends receiving the first vaccine available and does not endorse one vaccination over another, according to the release.
