The still-in-development Virginia Tech Innovation Campus in Potomac Yard received a boost on Tuesday, as Boeing announced a $50 million multiyear commitment to the university’s Alexandria-based, tech-focused graduate campus, according to a release.
Boeing’s donation will help fund student scholar–ships, the recruitment of faculty and researchers and STEM pathway programs for underserved K-12 students interested in pursuing a college degree or a career in tech, according to the release.
The $1 billion Innovation Campus is still expected to open in 2024, and City Council approved the first of three buildings for the compound in October 2020. The campus’ first class of computer science and computer engineering graduate students began their semester last fall entirely online due to the pandemic.
