This is the largest amount awarded for first-year scholarships in the fund’s 35-year history, according to the release.

The 183 scholarship recipients will attend schools such as Duke University; Virginia Tech; the College of William & Mary; Howard University and the University of Michigan.

On June 3, the recipients and financial supporters gathered in a virtual Zoom ceremony to celebrate the awards.
