The fifth annual Bezos Day 1 Families Fund, created by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos in 2018, issued a $2.5 million grant to Alexandria’s Carpenter’s Shelter.
Carpenter’s Shelter is one of 40 recipients from 26 states and Puerto Rico that will receive immediate donations, totaling $123.45 million.
According to the Day 1 Families Fund website, the donations aim to help these organizations “continue their compassionate, needle-moving work to help families move from unsheltered homelessness and shelters to permanent housing with the services they require to achieve stability.”
Carpenter’s Shelter is a homeless shelter that offers shelter and services with the stated goal of transitioning visitors into permanent, sustainable housing.
