On May 8, weapons detector screening equipment began being installed in some of Alexandria’s public schools.
ACPS Chief of School & Community Relations Julia Burgos said in an email response that the ACPS Office of Safety and Security Services began installing weapons screening equipment:
“across secondary school locations, to include ACHS King Street and Minnie Howard campuses, George Washington Middle School and Francis C. Hammond Middle School. This equipment installation is in preparation for the launch of the weapons screening pilot program. We have shared more information regarding the weapons screening pilot pro-
gram with students, staff and families, including frequently
asked questions.”
