At a home game on June 30, the Alexandria Aces (7-12) scored six runs in the first inning and five in the eighth to defeat the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts (10-9), 12-4.
Jared Norris (Yavapai (AZ) JC) homered and had two hits for the Aces. Tommy Grandieri (Penn), John Skaggs (Wayne State) and Andrew Brouse (Bucknell) added two hits each and Adam Clark (Transylvania) drove in a pair of runs. Starter Daniel Bifano (Cal State-Monterey Bay) struck out nine batters in seven innings to get the win.
The boys from Four Mile Run won a second game two days later at Braves Field in Herndon. The Aces beat the Braves (8-13) 8-5 in the June 1 night game. The Aces put up six runs in the fourth inning, keyed by a two-run single by Josh Wilson (Armstrong Atlantic) and a two-RBI double by Daniel Bierce (Lafayette). Andrew Brouse (Bucknell) added a two-run home run in the seventh, his fourth of the year. JT Odom (Mercer) got the win in relief for the Aces, tossing three shutout innings and striking out four batters. Alex Ferrera (Columbia) doubled, homered and drove in three runs for the Braves.
Brouse is tied with Joe Charron (Herndon Braves/University of Binghamton), to lead the league with four home runs.
The Aces are back in Alexandria against the Herndon Braves for “Peace Players International Night” at Four Mile Run Park on Fri., July 11. Game time is 7:00 pm.
On Saturday, July 12, the Aces travel to College Park for a double header against the Bombers, with the first game starting at 5:00 pm.
The Maryland Redbirds travel to Alexandria on Sun., July 13, to take on the Aces for a double header, with the first game starting at 5:00 pm.
Monday, July 14, has the Aces back on the road, playing the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts at Montgomery Blair Stadium in Silver Spring, Md., for a 7:00 pm start.
The Aces have Tuesday, July 15 and Wednesday, July 16 to rest up for a grueling end-of-the-season stretch of eleven games in ten days.
