Patriot Girls Tennis Tournament The tournament is in full-swing this week at Wakefield Park in Annandale.
In the eight-team Patriot District, each team sends it’s top two players to the nearly week long tournament, with the aspirations of placing in the “top-two” and representing the Patriot District in the upcoming Regional Tournament.
The T.C. Williams Lady Titans are represented by seniors Christina McDonnell and Kat Savchyn.
The West Potomac Lady Wolverines are represented by sisters Linda Ruamthong (freshman) and Julie Ruamthong (junior), and the Hayfield Lady Hawks are represented by senior Hillary Leake and freshman Katie Kim.
The individual listed first played singles #1 during the course of the regular season; the individual listed second played singles #2 during the course of the regular season.
The Titans are coached by Katie Sloper; the Wolverines by Cathy Leary and the Hawks by Freddie Cetron.
Lacrosse news
Ben O’Neill, from Episcopal’s class of ’04, was a key member of the 2007 National Champion Johns Hopkins University Lacrosse Team. O’Neill, a defenseman played significant minutes in last seasons title win versus Duke.
The ’08 Hopkins Blue Jays will open this year’s 16-team NCAA Tournament this weekend when they host Hofstra.
In the 16-team tournament, Hopkins is seeded fifth overall. Duke is the top-seeded team.
Track and Field events
The 2008 National District Track and Field Meet will be held May 13 and 14 at Edison High School. Local schools Mount Vernon and Edison are expected to turn in excellent results.
The 2008 Patriot District Track/Field Meet will be held May 14 and 15 at Lake Braddock High School. Local schools T.C. Williams, West Potomac and Hayfield are expected to challenge for many of the individual/team awards.
The 2008 Liberty District Track/Field Meet will be held May 15 and 16 at Thomas Jefferson High School. Local school Thomas Jefferson should place in the upper tier.
The 2008 Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) Track/Field Meet will be held May 16/17 at Good Counsel High School in Olney, Md. Local school Bishop Ireton will be hard-pressed to finish in the upper tier, having to compete against powerhouses such as Carroll, DeMatha, Elizabeth Seton, Gonzaga and McNamara – just to name a handful.
The Interstate Athletic Conference (IAC) Track/Field Meet will be held May 13 and 15 at Landon School in Bethesda. Local schools Episcopal and St. Stephens – on the boys side – will have their hands full to be able to finish in the upper third of the six team conference – competing against: Bullis, Georgetown Prep, Landon and St. Albans.
The “ISL” Track/Field Meet will be held May 9 and 10 at Potomac School in McLean. Local schools Episcopal and St. Stephens/St. Agnes, on the girls side, will attempt to finish in the upper tier.
