The hometown Bulldogs scored the games opening goal with just 4:31remaining in the first quarter.Goals were hard to come by in the defensive standoff between the Saintsand the Bulldogs. St. Albans eventually led 6-2, before SSSA’s Andrew Connor (three late goals) and Teddy Seifert (one late goal) rallied the Saints and tied thecontest at 6-6. Neither team scored in the first overtime. The game’s decisive goal came in the second OT when St. Albans JackBalaban (with an assist from Matt Miller) scored the sudden deathwinner.

First round
Early in the IAC Tournament, St. Stephens had defeated Bullis 8-3 in the first-round contest. SSSA then shocked perennial powerhouse Georgetown Prep 7-6 in the IACsemi-finals.Despite the championship game loss to St. Albans, the Saints overallseason record stood at 13-5 and SSSA qualified for the “TILT” (The Independent Lacrosse Tournament). In 2007, second-year head coach Andy Taibl has led the Saints to their best record in many seasons. In their first “TILT” (quarterfinal) contest of May 15 – SSSA, playing athome, defeated Cape Henry 7-5.The Saints will advance to the “TILT” semi-finals versus an opponent tobe determined.

Softball
In girls softball, St. Stephens advanced to the Virginia Independent State Playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade.Eighth-seeded SSSA had the unenviable task of traveling to top-seeded O’Connell on May 15 to lock horns with the Knights.  O’Connell struck for four runs in the first inning and never looked back. SSSA came up on the short end of an 11-1 score, but the Lady Saints season was still a success – all things considered. According to SSSA assistant head coach Keith Mills, ” This is the first time that our program has advanced to the VIS Tournament in nine seasons.” The Lady Saints were led by their four senior quad-captains this season, second baseman Maggie Taylor, third baseman Katie Teague, centerfielder Betsy Myers and shortstop Kit Davis. The Saints concluded the ’07 season with an overall record of 7-7, andwill return 10 of 14 players for the ’08 campaign.

Big toss
St. Stephens & St. Agnes senior shotputter Ian Davidson will take his talents and football skills to the University of Maryland this upcoming fall. More than likely, Davidson will play the defensive line for the Terps.
