In concluding the recent spring school year, the St. Stephens & St. Agnes girls
lacrosse team went wire to wire with just one loss, a setback to West Genessee, N.Y.

Consequently, in the National Polls, West Genessee finished the season ranked No.1 in the nation and SSSA finished the season second.

The Lady Saints have been a national power for nearly two decades, largely attributable to their head coach Kathy Jenkins.

We stress fundamentals with the girls, said the highly decorated head
coach. Her own daughter, Molly, played for the Lady Saints only a couple
of seasons ago. With the conclusion of the current season, all 11 Saint seniors will continue to play the sport in college – 10 at Division One schools. Among them Liz Downs, a defender, who will matriculate to the University of Virginia; Molly Millard, a midfielder, who will also attend the University of Virginia; Mia Hurrin, a midfielder, who will go to the University of North Carolina; Lauren Thomas, a goalie, who will attend Georgetown University; and Katherine Denkler, an attacker, who will call Vanderbilt University her new school.

A good year, too
Whereas the Bishop Ireton and the Episcopal girls programs arent quite as decorated as the St. Stephens program, both the Lady Cardinals and the Lady Maroon had some key wins this season and are looking forward to a successful spring 08 season.

For Ireton, junior attack and leading scorer Julianne Tela will be back for another season.

For Episcopal, senior attack and leading scorer Ansley Stewart recently graduated after turning in one of the finest offensive seasons in Maroon history.

As for the boys lacrosse season, St. Stephens, coached by Andy Taibl, won the VIS state title and finished as IAC Tournament runners-ups. A host of Saint seniors played their final game a few weeks ago and Taibl will have to depend on his younger players to step up in the 08 season. Taibl will miss all of this seasons seniors – especially twin brothers Mike White (defender), Mark White (goalie) as well as Teddy Seifert (attack) and Tommy Murray (attack).  The twins will attend the University of Maryland to play college lacrosse for the Terrapins and head coach Dave Cottle.

The Bishop Ireton and the Episcopal boys programs had a number of key wins in 07 and should be even stronger next season.

Ireton head coach Joey Kestermann (Ireton 99) said goodbye to one of his younger brothers – Andy – who completed his senior season as a goalie. The younger Kestermann, between the pipes, turned in one of the finest lacrosse seasons for an Ireton goalie in recent years.  In the meantime, Episcopal head coach Scott Conklin said goodbye to Danny Coale.

Coale, a senior midfielder, finished the 07 campaign with one of the finest offensive seasons in recent Maroon history. Despite being recruited by a number of NCAA Division One colleges for lacrosse, Coale will instead play Division One football at Virginia Tech.

Coaching changes
Bishop Ireton will undergo a host of coaching changes as the new school year draws near. Tony Verducci will replace Peter Rotkis as the Cardinals head varsity football coach. Verducci, who played at the Naval Academy in the late 70s, will apparently have the title interim football coach as newly selected
athletic director Bill Simmons assesses the direction of the program in
the upcoming months.

Other fall/autumn coaching changes included Sully Hamid – newly selected
boys soccer coach; Matt Hendricks – newly selected girls soccer coach; and Katie Sloper – newly selected tennis coach.
