At the intersection of Beulah and Telegraph Roads, you will discover the intimate and spicy sensations of SAMRAT Indian Cuisine, conveniently located at one end of Landsdowne Center.

If you are already comfortable with Indian menus, you will feel immediately at home  with familiar dishes, lovingly prepared and created onsite.  If you are new to the cuisine, you will be able to easily navigate your way through an exciting and sensory journey.  Indian cuisine is most notable for its sophisticated and subtle use of spices, herbs and vegatables .

Classic appetizers include Vegetable Samosa (vegetable patties stuffed with potatoes and peas); Chicken Pakoras (spiced julienne chicken dipped in chickpea batter and fried); and Lamb Seekh Kabob (ground lamb grilled and blended with herbs and spices).

You would be remiss if you did not fully embrace one of the standard staples of Indian fare:  Naan bread, a leavened, oven-baked flatbread, not only tasty on its own, but most often used even as a utensil to scoop rice and stewed juices of most entres you will encounter. Varieties at SAMRAT include cheese stuffed, garlic-laden and stuffed with mashed potatoesall cooked in a traditional Tandoor oven.

SAMRAT offers an array of entrees ranging from vegetarian specialties, like Eggplant Bharta (eggplant roasted in tandoor and then sauted with onion and cooked in Indian spices); Chaana Masala (chick peas cooked in tangy tomato sauce and spices); and Vegetable Korma (a combination of vegetables sauted and blended in a tasty curry).

Meat lovers will savor marinated kabobs, lamb, chicken, and seafood offerings.  All are tangy and linger on the palette, but for the adventurous of spirit, SAMRAT does prepare its version of the iconic Lamb Vindaloo an extremely spicy concoction of boneless lamb and potatoes soaked in a memorable, tongue-burning, spice-filled bath.  Should you be so bold, be sure to couple the experience with a glass of Mango Lassi,  an absolute must-have to soothe the heat, but a completely enjoyable beverage on its own.

Desserts are a special treat, and be sure to order the rice pudding and the Gulab Jamoon (two dumplings fried to golden brown and dipped in a sugar syrup).

SAMRAT welcomes you for lunch Monday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. – 2 p.m., for a spectacular buffet or regular menu and Saturdays and Sundays, 11:30 a.m. 3 p.m. Dinner is served Sunday through Thursday 5 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday until 10:00 p.m.  For more information, call (703) 541-5555 or visit Samratmahal.com.  Take- out and catering also available.
