58th Annual Needlework Show, Cafe, & Sale
The 58th Annual Needlework Show, Café & Sale is an exciting month-long event where over 500 needlework pieces are submitted and displayed throughout the mansion at the Woodlawn & Pope-Leighey House historic site. This year, the theme, “Hindsight 2020: Needlework Expressions of a Historic Year,” reflects the flow of emotions, observations and reactions of this unprecedented time.
Woodlawn, the first historic site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, is delighted to announce that timed entry tickets for the 58th opening of the Annual Needlework Show are now on sale! The Show will run from May 2nd to May 31st, 2021 (except Tuesdays). New this year will be a culminating Tent Sale on May 31st, with a bounty of high-quality needlework pieces available for purchase!
The theme, “Hindsight 2020: Needlework Expressions of a Historic Year”, captures the emotions and reactions of this significant time in history. From COVID-19, isolation, calls for social justice, economic stresses, political unrest, and the election, to the deepening need for connection and community, craft and its diverse artisans have taken center stage as a powerful outlet for strength, art, rebellion, and voice.
Throughout the Show, we promote diverse, emerging needlework artists and raise funds for relevant programming for today’s communities. We prioritize the full and truthful history of all who lived and worked on this site, especially the enslaved African Americans, and Indigenous peoples of the area. In addition to the Needlework Show, Café, and Sale, join us for engaging virtual programs that spotlight social justice, activism, and healing through traditional and modern needle art.
Timed Entry Tickets for the Show are on sale. Please visit our website for updates on tickets, programs, and more.
While at the Show, shop at the gift shop, purchase a delicious lunch served at the Nelly’s Café, hosted by Woodlawn-based Nelly’s Needler’s volunteer group, and take part in the annual Nelly’s Needler’s raffle. This year’s raffle is a chance to win one of four Needlepoint pillows designed by the British firm of Elisabeth Bradley.
