Conversations: DC’s Newest Memorial Commemorating WWI
Join us via Zoom to learn about the Capital’s newest memorial. The United States World War I Memorial boasts the largest free-standing bronze relief in the Western Hemisphere in a beautiful urban park located on historic Pennsylvania Avenue. You’ll learn about this incredible sculpture, and the vision and mission of the WWI Centennial Commission presiding over the memorial’s creation.
Our speaker is Philip Mazzara, past President of the Centennial Commission, and presently on its Board of Directors. The Commission was established in 2013 for the creation of the Memorial, as well as educational and commemorative projects. To raise the necessary funds for that work, the United States Foundation for the Commemoration of World Wars was created and later dubbed The Doughboy Foundation. The Memorial is set for opening in 2024.
