“Little Pine’s Halloween” Reading and Meet the Author: Nina Tisara

Come hear the author herself! Meet mosaic artist/photographer and Alexandria legend Nina Tisara on October 21 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Del Ray Artisans gallery. She will give a special reading of her story, Little Pine’s Halloween, at 6 p.m.

Tisara wrote the story for her children when they were young. It tells of a young pine tree who plans a Halloween party for his neighbor trees, but worries that his pine needles won’t turn pretty colors like theirs.

Tisara recently unearthed a typed version of the story and shared it with her children. Her youngest, Lynn, suggested she turn it into a book. And she did!

The front and back covers, designed by Sharmila Karamchandani and Steven Halperson, show mosaics Tisara recently made to illustrate the story. The mosaics, which show Little Pine and Mother Pine surrounded by colorful trees, both received Honorable Mention recognition in Art League exhibitions.

Children (and adults) are encouraged to wear costumes. Del Ray Artisans gallery is at 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue in Alexandria.

Face masks are recommended inside the gallery.
