“Mass in Blue” Jazz Worship

On October 16, during the 11 a.m. worship service at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House, the Festival Choir, accompanied by a jazz band led by Music Director Dr. Steven Seigart, will present British composer Will Todd’s unique and upbeat Mass in Blue. Traversing swing, blues, gospel, bebop, and even funk, Todd’s 21st-century masterwork heightens the drama of this traditional Latin text with tinges of Brubeck, Ellington, Gershwin, Coltrane, and Mahalia Jackson, just to name a few of the obvious influences. Featuring soprano soloist Suzanne Karpov Seigart, this jazz-centered service will also include special hymns arranged for the occasion.

If you’d like to join the Festival Chorus for this performance, please contact Dr. Seigart at sseigart@opmh.org. There are just three rehearsals, and online rehearsal aids are available to help you learn your parts!
