Newly Juried 2022: A Torpedo Factory Art Center Exhibition Reception

Principle Gallery, in partnership with Torpedo Factory Art Center, present presents a new exhibition featuring artwork by recently juried artists to be a part of Torpedo Factory Art Center. Artists on view will include new and returning Resident Artists, and Artists Pro Tem who are eligible to sublease and take part in Art Center programs. New Resident Artists will gain a studio in the Fall. The exhibition, curated by Principle Gallery, offers the public a first view of artwork by the 51 artists selected for the Art Center.

The Art Center’s jurying of artists was a highly competitive process in three phases. Phase I was a blind review of only artwork. Phase II reviewed the artist’s ability to communicate about their art and their progression in their artistic career. Phase III reviewed artwork in person and provides an opportunity for the artists to present directly to the jurors. The process is built on equity, transparency, and best practices. Professional curators, professors, and artists in the field jury and score the applicants.

While the artists were selected through the Art Center’s process, Principle Gallery curated the artwork of the 51 artists into a unified exhibition. Artwork on view at Principle Gallery will include paintings, ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, new technology, and more. The exhibition opens on Friday, August 5th, and will be displayed through Sunday, August 21st. Principle Gallery will be hosting an Opening Reception on Friday, August 5th from 6-8:30 pm (208 King St Alexandria, VA 22314).
