Wreaths Across America at Alexandria National Cemetery

The Veterans Administration and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW Post 609) will host the annual Wreaths Across America (WAA) posting of wreaths on the 4300+ headstones of military veterans (from the Civil war through current wars in the Middle East.). The public is invited to participate in placing wreaths. Entrance to the historic cemetery will be staggered, admitting 25 persons at a time. Facial masks must be worn.
To contribute a wreath, ($15 each) consult the WAA web site at: www.wreathsacrossamerica.org then click on the red button “sponsor wreaths”; be sure to specify your wreath for ALEXANDRIA Cemetery. The cutoff date for pledging wreaths is November 30th. For more information, phone: 703-609-4560

Note to calendar editor: last year we had enough wreaths pledged for all headstones. This year, likely due to pandemic, the pledges are way down. We also suffer some from being in the shadows of Arlington Cemetery a few miles down the road. Thus we would appreciate running this calendar announcement for several weeks in the Alexandria Times. Thanks. My home phone # is: 703-768-3421. Gerald Krueger, Commander, VFW Post 609, Alexandria. BTW: we meet monthly on the second Saturday, at 12 noon in the Cemetery caretakers’ building. the attached photo is of me, and my cubscout grandson: Phillip Gray You may use it if you like.
