A postal delivery worker dialed 911 after witnessing flames and smoke from the roof of 216 S. Fairfax St. Units from Alexandria, Arlington, Prince George’s and Fairfax were on the scene to extinguish the blaze. “Strong wind conditions definitely hampered their ability to extinguish the fire, but once more hose lines were placed, they were able to do so,” AFD Deputy Fire Chief Paul Ruwe said. A homeowner was in the residence at the time of the fire, but escaped unharmed. One firefighter sustained minor injuries not requiring hospitalization.
