A day for dads: Fathers Day 2010 in Alexandria

Chief dad
The Friendship Firehouse, 107 S. Alfred St., will conduct special tours for fathers in honor of Fathers Day. The firehouse will be appointing every father who attends an honorary Chief of the Friendship Fire Company Bucket Brigade. Children will receive a certificate, an opportunity to ring the fire bell and their picture taken with the Friendship fire engine. The event is free and open to the public. Founding fathers
Visitors to the Mt. Vernon Estate, 3200 Mt. Vernon Memorial Hwy., will get a special opportunity to meet George Washington. He will host guests for questions and pictures. The general will then give a special performance, Father to the First Family. With purchase of a ticket, all fathers will also receive complimentary admission to George Washingtons distillery and gristmill.

Free Fathers Day 
tours at Gadsbys Tavern
Gadsbys Tavern Museum, 138 N. Royal St., is offering free tours all day for visiting fathers. Celebrate Fathers Day with your one and only dad where the fathers of our country ate, drank and, of course influenced history. 

Fathers Day tours at the Apothecary 
The historic Alexandria Apothecary, 105 S. Fairfax St., offers free tours on Fathers Day. See the outstanding collection of herbs and botanicals as well as the shops furnishings and original equipment. All tours are free for visiting fathers. The cost is $5 for all other adults and $3 for children (age 5-12).

FATHERS DAY SPECIALS AT JACKSON 20 On Fathers Day, dads qualify for $2 Working Mans Canned Beer, $5 Craft Canned Beer, and Boxed Bandit Cabernet/Chardonnay  and discounted prime rib deals. The deal lasts from 8 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. at Jackson 20, 480 King St.
