The Alexandria Film Festival will take place virtually this year from Nov. 12 to 15, according to a news release.

This year, cinephiles will be able to watch 45 short and feature length films that span genres and subject matter, from family dramas to documentaries chronicling social justice movements.

In honor of the centennial of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote, the documentary “9 to 5: The Story of a Movement” will kick off the festival’s opening night. Directed by Oscar-winning filmmakers Julia Reichert and Steve Bognar, the film follows a group of office workers in the 70s who kickstart a national movement for gender equality in the workplace, according to the release. Women direct about half of the films that will be presented at this year’s festival, according to the release.

Because of the pandemic, this year’s festival will be completely remote. Viewers will be able to watch films according to the festival program schedule or within two weeks of when the films screen, according to the release.

Tickets are available for the festival’s 14 showcases – collections of films grouped by specific themes – for $12 and all-festival passes are available for $50. Tickets can be purchased at www.AlexFilmFest.com.
