Alexandria shooting leads to D.C. chase

The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a “shots fired” incident that took place on Tuesday and led to a police pursuit of the suspects in Washington D.C., according to a news release.

The shooting occurred around 8:40 p.m. on Tuesday in the 800 block of North Patrick Street and bullets hit several nearby cars and buildings, according to the release. After APD officers located a vehicle with four suspects inside, a car chase occurred, ending after the suspects crashed on I-295 above Malcolm X Boulevard in Southeast D.C. just after 9 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle exited the car and fled on foot, according to the release. In the process of apprehending the driver, a U.S. Park Police officer used a taser. The driver was conscious and breathing when an ambulance arrived at the scene but lost consciousness and died on the way to the hospital, according to the release.

Police took the other three suspects into custody in D.C.
