The Alexandria Symphony Orchestra announced the seven recipients of its micro-grant program on Monday.
The grant-funded projects, which must be completed by June 2021, will aim to accomplish one of a number of specific goals, according to a news release.
Some projects, like ASO Concertmaster Claudia Chudacoff’s, feature underrepresented artists in classic music. Chudacoff will record a piece by Ecuadorian composer Chia Patino, marking the first known recording of this piece of music, according to the release.
Other projects will aim to benefit Alexandria’s children. Animation artist Alexi Scheiber will hold a virtual artist talk for students in ASO’s Sympatico music program and tango group QuinTango will teach Alexandria
City Public School orchestra students to play the tango, according to the release.
“These outstanding and original projects are emblematic of ASO’s commitment to creativity in service to our community,” ASO Executive Director George Hanson said in a statement. “We look forward to seeing them come to fruition in the coming months.”
