On Monday, June 15, the Alexandria Police Department began an active photo red light enforcement campaign to help reduce red-light runners throughout the city. Photo enforcement cameras will capture still images and video of red-light violators.

During a 30-day warning period, a warning notice will be issued to the vehicles registered owner, for any violations. There will be no fine for this warning notice. At the completion of the warning period, citations will be issued.

The photo-enforcement cameras are located at the intersections of South Patrick Street and Franklin Street, South Patrick Street and Gibbon Street, and Duke Street and South Walker Street.

This grace period will give motorists an opportunity to become familiar with the red-light photo enforcement system in Alexandria, Chief of Police David P. Baker said. This is a public safety program and our goal is to deter red-light runners and prevent accidents resulting from these violations.
