Police are on the look out for the man who walked into an Old Town United Bank location Tuesday morning, flashed a handgun and made off with cash.
The suspect, described as a 25- to 30-year-old, light-skinned black man roughly 5-foot-9, entered the 301 S. Washington St. bank about 9 a.m. After brandishing his firearm, the man demanded cash. A bank teller complied and the man fled on foot, authorities said.
He was last seen heading down South Washington Street. Officials say the suspect wore blue jeans and a black coat at the time of the heist. Donning a camouflaged bonnie hat, the suspect covered his face with a black scarf.
Police did not release the exact amount of money the suspect stole. The heist is the city’s first bank robbery of the year. The city was home to five bank heists in 2011.
Authorities urge anyone with information regarding the bank robbery to contact detective Chris Whelan at 703-746-6884 or the police department’s criminal investigations section at 703-746-6711.
