A male teacher at T.C. Williams has resigned in connection with an investigation into rumors that he had inappropriate relationships with multiple female students, administrators said.

In a letter sent to parents Monday, Principal Suzanne Maxey wrote that on June 7, school officials learned of a rumor that a teacher had “inappropriate relations” with “several” female students. Officials promptly launched an investigation, she said.

“Within a short time, we discovered enough information to contact [Alexandria City Public Schools] Human Resources to remove the teacher from the school,” Maxey wrote. “…Furthermore the teacher has resigned.”

Maxey said in the letter that she could not disclose any further information because of an ongoing investigation by school and police officials.

Morton Sherman, superintendent of Alexandria City Public Schools said in a statement Monday that while the school system cannot make specific comments about the incident while police investigate the matter,  “the administration will not tolerate any misconduct or inappropriate behavior between staff and students.”

“Whenever there is any accusation of misconduct on the part of a teacher or any staff members, we fully cooperate with law enforcement authorities and encourage full investigation of the accusations,” Sherman said.

Police officials likewise declined to comment, citing the active investigation.
