A man wielding a handgun held up a bank clerk at the Washington Street Bank of America at about 10:40 a.m. Friday before fleeing with cash, according to Alexandria police.
Police would not reveal the amount of money stolen, citing its sensitivity to the investigation.
Fridays heist was the branchs second in a month and the fourth bank robbery in Alexandria in the last two months.
Video surveillance caught the suspects image a 6-foot black male, 30 to 40 years old with a thin build. He could be the same suspect responsible for robbing the Bank of America and an Alexandria PNC Bank in December of last year, but its unclear, department spokesman Jody Donaldson said. That suspect is now wanted by the FBI.
Looking at the picture, it doesnt exactly look like the same guy, but until we really dig down into it, [police] are not going to rule it out, Donaldson said. Were hoping someone might have seen him and will let us know.
No arrests have been made in any of the citys recent heists.
Anyone with additional information about the robbery is asked to call the Criminal Investigations Section of the Alexandria Police Department at 703-838-4444 or the Crime Solvers tip line at 703-838-4858. Witnesses may remain anonymous.
