Funding is to begin next month on an in-depth study of the Belle View Area Flood Control Project, and was  included in Fairfax County’s Fiscal Year 2009 budget with funds from the county’s annual stormwater “Penny Fund.”

“This a very encouraging development,” said John Giglio of the Belle View Area Coalition, which represents the homeowner associations in the flood zone.

Giglio said that a great debt of gratitude was owed to Supervisor Gerry Hyland, Rep. Jim Moran, the staff of the County Stormwater Management Office, and others who have been working for several years to keep the effort moving forward.  “While a ‘feasibility-level’ study is but one of several steps towards developing a financially viable project that has local support, it’s a major one,” he added.  “We’re especially pleased that county officials remain committed to continued public input as this study moves forward.”
