After Alexandria Police Department staff – along with support from neighboring law enforcement – completed a sweep at Alexandria City High School due to a possible bomb threat, APD determined the threat was not credible. APD also said in an eNews service notification there is no threat to the public.
The King Street campus of ACHS was evacuated around 11:50 a.m. Wednesday after a bomb threat was called into the central office of Alexandria City Public Schools. Students were evacuated to designated areas outside, mainly on the football field of the campus. Before students were dismissed for the day at 1 p.m., buses were provided by the ACPS transportation office to keep students warm. In a message to families and staff at ACHS, Alexander Duncan III, executive principal, said due to the size of the building, it would take a “considerable amount of time” to search the building.
In this same message, Duncan asked for patience from parents as the buses worked to drop off students at regular bus stops. Parents were directed at pick-up to the Woods Avenue entrance.
School returned normally on Thursday morning.
