Alexandria police confirmed Friday afternoon that its suspicious death investigation at Four Mile Run Park is being treated as a homicide.

Police spokeswoman Crystal Nosal said officers, with help from the Fairfax County Search and Rescue Urban Team, conducted a search of the Arlandria park in an effort to find 22-year-old Eduard David Chandias Almendarez, who was last seen in the park November 28. During the search, police found the body of an adult man suffering from “apparent injuries.”

Nosal said she could not elaborate on the nature of those injuries, but confirmed Almendarez was the victim at the center of the investigation.

This is the fourth homicide in Alexandria this year. On November 9, Jose Luis Ferman, 24, was found dead in Beverley Park, commonly known as The Pit, suffering from “chop and stab wounds to his head and neck,” according to an autopsy. Leon Willims, 37, was shot and killed October 7 on Belle Pre Way, and Shakkan Elliot-Tibbs, 22, of Woodbridge was shot and killed July 2 along the 700 block of N. Fayette St.
