Bombay Curry Company, an Indian restaurant once tucked away on the ground floor of The Calvert apartment building, is reopening at 2607 Mount Vernon Avenue in Del Ray, and locals are embracing it with wagging tongues.
“I would just like to add that I don’t think I have ever in all my years as a commissioner seen so many letters of support attached to an application as I have for Bombay Curry Company,” said Mary Lyman, a member of the planning commission, before the board approved the move February 7.
The 40-seat eatery, which must still be approved by city council, adds yet another flavor to the expanding tastes on The Avenue in Del Ray. But it’s nothing new for longtime residents — the Indian Restaurant served korma and kebabs down the street for 17 years.
Its reputation is well deserved, said planning commission chair John Komoroske. “I’m sure that’s why they curried everyone’s favor.”
Providing there are no major hurdles, owner Balraj Bhasin said he plans to open the restaurant in June.
