Television crews from both Los Angeles and New York descended on Del Ray Wednesday as part of the official groundbreaking ceremony at the future site of the new Pork Barrel BBQ restaurant, slated to open for business sometime next spring.

Mayor Bill Euille was on hand for the celebration, which included a sampling of pulled pork and the Pork Barrel BBQ sauce and All American rub that was recently featured on ABC TVs Shark Tank and Fox and Friends.

Mike Anderson, owner of Mango Mikes, and his general manager Bill Blackburn, have partnered with Brett Thompson and Heath Hall, two Capitol Hill lawyers and barbeque aficionados who created the award-winning sauce.

Weve been looking to open a barbeque place for about three years now, said Blackburn. We stumbled across Heath and Brett and its a perfect fit.

Anderson said that he was originally being advised by friends to open a restaurant in what is seen by some as the hot Ashburn area, but his wife convinced him otherwise.

She said, If youre looking for hot, go to Del Ray, Anderson said to applause from the local community. Del Ray is definitely hot and were excited to be here.

Hall and Thompson shot several scenes as a follow-up to their Shark Tank appearance, as a large crowd of local Del Ray business owners cheered them on and welcomed them to the community.

With barbeque, there is always the debate: Carolina, Memphis, St. Louis, Hall said. But everyone always seems to come away with a full stomach and feeling good, and we plan to bring that feeling, along with the worlds best barbeque, to Del Ray.
