Anne L. Johns, CFP, ChFC, CLU, is a community builder, in both the financial and physical worlds. In the former she has received national recognition more than a dozen times. In the latter, it is the recognition of the less fortunate that gives her joy.
A financial representative with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans for the past 19 years, Johns serves clients throughout Northern Virginia and beyond from her office at 717 King St. During Thrivents recent convention she was once again recognized for her accomplishments with the companys Sierra Level Award presented to only 570 of Thrivents 2,600 representatives.
I help my clients define and achieve their financial goals. With Thrivent being a conservative organization, the recession has actually brought more investors to us. Im over last year in personal projections, Johns said.
A nonprofit organization that was founded in the Midwest in the early 1900s, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is a Fortune 500 financial services membership organization serving approximately 2.6 million members to gain financial security and give back to their communities. It offers a broad range of financial products including life insurance, annuities, mutual funds, disability income plans and bank products.
We work with everybody not just Lutherans. But, we are a faith-based organization started by Lutheran farmers in the Midwest who wanted to protect their assets for their families. They decided to collect premiums in their churches to enable them to offer various services, Johns explained.
Thrivent representatives now offer programs from a variety of other companies as well as their own, according to Johns.
If you own one of our policies, you are a voting member of the company. The profits are returned to the members and to the communities, she said.
Johns and others give back in other ways as well. We have a large corporate relationship with Habitat For Humanity. I will be leaving for El Salvador on September 18 to help construct homes for those in need there, she said. There is nearly a 400,000-unit housing deficit in El Salvador, according to Thrivent statistics.
One way Thrivent Financial demonstrates its commitment to communities is through a multi-year, multi-million dollar alliance with Habitat for Humanity, called Thrivent Builds. This initiative includes several programs to help end poverty housing and help families.
The alliance is composed of two elements:
Thrivent Builds Homes is a national program that joins nearly three million Thrivent members with Habitat for Humanity to build homes throughout the United States.
Thrivent Builds Worldwide is a program of short-term working trips, nationally and worldwide, for individuals and groups to participate in Habitat for Humanitys efforts.
Being able to participate in these efforts is very important to me. It is a way to help those in need in a very practical and tangible way, Johns said.
