Crystal City kicks off spring with its 2nd Annual Crystal Block Party on Sunday, April 13 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on 23rd Street between S. Eads and S. Fern Streets.
The block will be filled with live music, family-friendly activities (with mega-moonbounces), and old-fashioned, outdoor street-festival fun.
Several 23rd street restaurants will provide promotions to add flavor to the day. The musical lineup, with tunes from the 80s to retro-American country to classic rock, includes the Reflex, the Folsom Prisoners, and the Wicked Jezabel Band.
This years community event will also celebrate the landing of Crystal Flight – 50 artful Airplane Statues – on the streets of Crystal City.
Each plane is sponsored by an area business, creatively painted by talented artists and then placed around the streets. As part of the celebration, graffiti artist Kevin Irvin will be working on his airplane canvas live in the middle of the street throughout the day. Spectators will be able to watch the artist create and complete his design as the day progresses.
We cannot imagine a better way to land the planes than with a neighborhood block party,” said Angela Fox, president and CEO of Crystal City BID. “This is Crystal City at its finest family fun, artists, whimsical creativity, and great music.
Complimentary parking for the event has been generously provided by Archstone in the parking lot behind the restaurants at the corner of S. Eads and 22nd Street South.
