Area residents, employees, and the children of Crystal Citys newest and largest day care facility, Bright Horizons, are being tapped to decorate two of the fifty Crystal Flight Airplane Statues.
 
The Crystal City Business Improvement Districts (BID) Crystal Flight project, which will bring the five-by-five foot airplane statues (25 fighter jets and 25 vintage planes) to the streets of Crystal City in April 2008, continues to expand its community partnerships in fun and meaningful ways.
 
First, on March 28, Crystal Flight sponsor Bright Horizons will host a Parent/Child Art Outing to decorate their plane. Bright Horizons Center Director, Amiee Lacson, is working with the children and parents to develop an artistic concept, giving them a fun opportunity to spend family time working together to paint the centers plane. The airplane and concrete base will be transported by JK Moving & Storage to the suite next door to the Bright Horizons facility at 2451 Crystal Drive. The childrens temporary studio has been generously-donated by Vornado/Charles E. Smith.
 
This is a wonderful opportunity for our children to partake in an event that will help build the culture of Crystal City, said Amiee Lacson. Our children love this beautiful area with its natural light and landscapes. To participate in Crystal Citys Flight event, is the childrens small way of sharing their artistic expression and being a part of this growing community.
 
Second, the Crystal City BID has provided a plane, dubbed Chalk It Up, that will be coated with outdoor chalkboard paint. Located at the highly trafficked corner of 18th Street and Crystal Drive, residents, employees, and tourists will be encouraged to add their thoughts, creative musings, or drawings onto the plane.

Not only do they literally exemplify the illumination element of our Bright and Brilliant brand, they are focused on nurturing the natural lights in our next generation. We love that their project will connect the children with their parents, while allowing them to mix play, art, and their innate love of planes.
