The Colombian Navy sailed the Gloria into Alexandrias harbor at the foot of Duke Street Tuesday to the tune of Himno Nacional de la Repblica de Colombia (the Colombian national anthem) booming from the deck.

Rumored to be in town to support a free trade agreement being mulled by President Obama, the ship docked in Alexandria after the water level at a D.C. pier proved too shallow.

About 150 spectators came to watch the ship dock at the Robinson South terminal, where the crew performed a 19-gun salute. The public can board the ship, meet the crew and tour the ship until 8 p.m.

Built in 1968, Gloria is the flagship and training vessel for the Colombian Navy. At 1,300 tons and about 250 feet long, it is one of the largest tall ships still floating today, according to the Colombian Embassy.
