The teams record may put the Alexandria Aces in the basement of the Cal Ripken League standings through the halfway point of the 2010 season, but there have been several bright spots on the diamond despite the sub-.500 record.
Aces swept the awards for the first week of the summer with Will Davis and Rand Ravnaas sharing player-of-the-week honors and left-handed hurler Max Knowles earning the nod for Pitcher of the Week after winning both starts.
Brian Derner added to the Aces haul in week two, taking the pitcher-of-the-week accolades for his scoreless seven-inning start on June 18.
Their on-field performances to date have put Aces in four of the eight online voting spots for mid-year awards. Ravnaas and Davis are second and fourth, respectively, in the race for MVP. Knowles leads the voting for the top pitcher in the first half and Adam Zimmer (2-1, 0.89 ERA) is fourth.
