Alexandria police are investigating the theft of a large sum of money from a locked safe inside a 5000 block Seminary Road home reported October 13.

The victim was not home at the time, according to police reports, but her juvenile daughter was entertaining guests in the residence. Authorities described it as a “small gathering.”

Police don’t know how long the victim was gone, but she discovered the missing cash after returning about 1:12 p.m. The exact time of the theft is unknown, said Ashley Hildebrandt, department spokeswoman.

Authorities do not consider the victim’s daughter or her guests as suspects, she said. The cash remains missing, and the theft is under investigation.
