Tenants and Workers United will hold its 12th Annual Multicultural Health Fair Saturday, September 19 at Cora Kelly Recreation Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. where uninsured, underinsured and insured individuals can receive free medical attention.
More than 30 organizations from the area will combine to provide critical medical care and information to anyone showing up. The fair offers free medical exams and consultation with medical professionals as well as screenings for HIV, cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, vision and more.
Other services include the possibility of free health insurance, workshops, playgroups for kids and other family and community resources.
About 10 Virginians die every week from preventable and/or treatable disease because they dont have health insurance and cant afford medical care, said TWU spokesperson Lucero Beebe-Giudice. While we fight to win health care for all people, we must strive to take care of people today.
