The Alexandria Health Department began to offer H1N1 vaccines to Alexandria City Public Schools secondary school students last week. The current schedule to offer vaccines began at George Washington Middle Schools 1 and 2 last Monday and continued with Francis C. Hammond Middle Schools 1, 2 and 3 on Tuesday.
T.C. Williams Minnie Howard campus starts its vaccination process today and the T.C. Williams main campus will follow suit this Friday. School officials emphasized that the schedule is subject to change based on the vaccines availability to the health department.
Officials reiterated that vaccines are only to be given to students who have returned a signed parental permission form. Parents who have not completed a consent form but wish for their student to receive the vaccine at school can still download a consent form from the ACPS website and return the signed consent form to the school nurse. Parents who have completed a consent form previously and no longer want their student to get the vaccine should call their school nurse and pick up their signed consent form prior to the scheduled immunization clinic.
