Triathletes compete for donuts. Stratford Landing Swimming Pool recently hosted their annual Triathalon Race for Donuts which drew more than 60 participants from the Mount Vernon pool where the unconventional prize of donuts for place-holders of the mile swim, 11-mile bike and 3-mile run and the inaugural kiddie competition begged for ingestion. Especially memorable was the gung-ho corporate team from local bathroom contractor Only Bathrooms, led by their fearless team captain owner Larry Newman, who won fans by completing the race relay-style with toilet paper in tow. Seeking top advantage, the teams designated swimmer was outfitted with fins and snorkel to the huge amusement of the spectators, reported event co-coordinator Rex Holloway.
BUZZed up Journaling. Buzz Bakery, Coffee, and Lounge alongside and Journaling Coach Gwen Mayes, a neighbor of Buzz and lover of magical summer nights, are combining talents to host Reflections on the Day, a neighborhood journaling workshop Aug. 28, from 8-9 p.m. Manager Lindsey Stewart heralds the workshop as a terrific way for Buzz to deepen the relationship between the coffee-shop and its neighbors.
