The George Washington Middle School Jazz Band won second place at the Chantilly Invitational Jazz Festival last Friday, yet another strong showing in competition for an Alexandria City Public School musical group.

The ensemble, directed by Rick Seracino, earned the highest possible ratings from all three judges for their performance, coming in second place on overall points to Rachel Carson Middle School of Herndon. Luke Young, the GWMS jazz groups lead trombone player, was also named to the festivals all-star jazz band.
