Alexandrias only public high school, T.C. Williams, was recently named the 2008 Judges Choice Winner as part of the Green Education Design Showcase. The award is for the new building, which replaced the crowded and outdated original building in the fall of 2007.

According to the Education Design Showcases website, the new T.C. provides a healthy and ecologically sensitive environment for students and faculty, while affording them access to a variety of environmental learning opportunities. With a traditional masonry exterior surrounding a state-of-the-art interior, T.C. Williams High School blends the history of Alexandria with innovative green technologies.
The website described the many environmentally conscious features of the new building, including its water storage and drainage systems and energy efficiency measures.

T.C. Williams was one of five Virginia schools highlighted in the annual education design competition, and the only Virginia public school.
