A would-be robber was apparently deterred after his victim refused to turn over her purse even after he flashed a gun.

The woman was walking along the 500 block of Armistead St. about 2:07 a.m. on May 13 when the man approached her, police said. He pulled out a handgun, but the woman rebuffed him and he fled, said department spokeswoman Ashley Hildebrandt.

He remains free and the incident is under investigation, she said.
